There really is no other article of men's clothing like a perfectly fitted made-to-measure suit.
The look on your customer's face when he slips one on that fits well is priceless.
Sure, a great fitting suit off the rack is something to get enthusiastic about too,
but there's that "something" about getting a new suit made for you
that you can't substitute or recreate for your customer with a ready-to-wear garment.
If you already do a good job selling MTM, then you know exactly what we mean.
If you don't, here are 10 great reasons why you might want to start selling (more) MTM.
- Typically, a MTM sale is more expensive than a RTW sale. Higher sales is always a good thing.
- You can avoid alterations that are inevitable when selling off-the-rack clothing:
for instance, you could start having pants come in with finished bottoms. Fewer alterations means more profit on each sale.
- You can make your hard-to-fit customers look terrific, without having to do expensive alterations on ready-made clothing.
Keep your profit, instead of losing it on alterations.
And get those customers in the first place: many men know that they're hard to fit and will only go to a store that does MTM.
- Sell from hundreds of fabrics, rather than just what you have available in the customer's size.
Isn't it nice to be able to say "Every suit here is your size and favorite style, sir"?
- Enjoy much better cash flow.
Most transactions will see you getting paid in full at least 30 days before you pay the invoice,
rather than having that money tied up on your racks.
- Once you have a customer's measurements on file, making repeat sales couldn't be easier.
(And when your customer's birthday approaches,
isn't it nice if "that special someone" can buy him a really nice gift, made to his own measurements, yet a complete surprise?
And which store has those measurements?)
- MTM attracts "big spenders" even if they're not hard to fit,
because it's a quick visit for them to take care of all their needs for the season in one store ... yours.
- Satisfied MTM customers typically refer their friends more often than RTW customers,
since they feel there was an element of skill involved that might not be found easily elsewhere.
- It sets your store apart from others: usually only better stores sell MTM.
- You wouldn't usually make an alteration of only a small amount on a ready-to-wear garment,
because the extra cost isn't justified: the garment will fit pretty well without it.
With MTM, small alterations aren't any extra cost and you can specify as many of them as you like,
so you can increase your odds that the customer gets an absolutely perfect fit -
of which your customer will want more.
